Type of work: online shop design

Development of a design for an online shop selling piercing jewellery. As the client intended, we placed a woman's navel with a beautiful piercing in the site header. 

Bestbarbell.com is an online shop of women's piercing jewellery, with a focus on beautiful and unusual pieces rather than on a basic set of studs and rings. Its customers are women who see a piercing as a part of their personal style, comparable to a carefully chosen accessory, and who look for jewellery that is elegant and feminine. For them the shop is as much a place for inspiration as a place to buy, and the design had to reflect that.

We developed the design of the shop. The central image was the client's own idea: a woman's navel with a beautiful piercing in the header of the site. It is a bold choice, but an honest one - navel jewellery is one of the most popular categories in this field, and showing a real piece on the body tells a visitor more about its size, shine and effect than any product photo on a white background. The image also sets a feminine, slightly sensual tone that runs through the whole shop and distinguishes it from stores that address all audiences at once.

Below the header, the shop follows the way buyers search: by the type of piercing - navel, ear, nose, eyebrow, tongue - and by the type of jewellery - rings, barbells, earrings. The search phrases the shop was built for - piercing, piercing jewellery, buy earrings for piercing, ear piercing, nose piercing, eyebrow piercing, tongue piercing, rings, barbells, earrings - match these two ways of choosing, so that a visitor arriving with a specific idea can find it without effort.
