Type of work: Design development for a social network

A great many social networks are appearing these days, and we too recently received an order for yet another social network. Our client ordered a social network aimed at the USA.

YourClassmates is a social network for finding new friends and chatting online, ordered by a client who aimed it at an audience in the USA. New social networks appear all the time, and each of them faces the same difficulty: people already spend their time on large, established platforms, so a new network has to offer a clear reason to join and make the first minutes after registration pleasant enough that the user comes back the next day.

Our task was the design of the network. A social network is used for hours, not seconds, so the interface had to be comfortable for long sessions: the profile, the list of friends, messages and the search for new acquaintances needed to be easy to reach from anywhere, without the user having to remember where things are. Since the audience was American, the design followed the habits of users who are used to the conventions of the leading social platforms of that market, so that a newcomer would feel at home immediately instead of learning a new logic. The registration was meant to be short, because every extra field at the start loses part of the people who were ready to try the network.
